5x4x3x is a video-installation produced by reflection, its visualization occurs through light reflecting in mirrors manipulated by the visitors.

“Mirrors are filled with people. The invisible see us. The forgotten remember us. When they see us, we see them. When we go, do they?”

Mirrors Eduardo Galeano

According to the history of occultism, catoptromancy (the supposed art of divination through the use of mirrors), endows the mirror with magical attributes that reveals a doorway to other, inverted or transcendent, realities.

In the installation, the image is seen on the walls of the space only when the mirrors are being manipulated by the visitor, surprising him, not only upon seeing which images and where the results of his action are being projected; such as the dimension, the overlapping, the inversion, the speed and the movement of these same, but also the perception of his own as well as another’s body in the exhibit space. A new way of seeing and projecting, transforming the visitor into director, scriptwriter not only of the images he manipulates, but also in a real-time co-production with the moving and fragmented images projected by others in the space. The mirror is the prosthesis for visual stimulation, the vehicle that transmits the information of a narrative in construction. Upon entering the 8x8x3m space, of a floor covered in black carpeting and white walls, we encounter 5 one-meter high projectors, placed in a circle, all slightly turned down and facing towards the center of the room and each having a different 5-minute looping video (various themes: buildings, streets, pedestrians, showcase windows, graffiti.

At the entrance, the visitor receives 1 or 2 framed mirrors, of varying sizes, heads to the center of these projectors and begins to interact with the light that they emanate and, in this way, projects the images onto the exhibit space, in accordance with his will and movement – we define mirror as the total regular surface capable of reflecting the incident bright radiation, a surface that supplies a virtual image that is correct, inverted (or symmetrical), a mirrored reflection (of a size equal to the reflected object), which in the case of this installation varies according to the parameters of the public in the exhibit space, resulting in overlaid, side-by-side images and, additionally, creating different narratives for the original images. The reflected image is not a duplication of the projected image, but rather a duplication of the emitted light, the mirror registers that which hits it in the manner that it hits, it does not interpret, merely edits.
